ZERO GRAVITY; USING PROMPTS TO GIVE YOUR WRITING ROCKET FUEL

Every writer experiences slowdowns: Your creative project loses momentum, or maybe you have trouble getting liftoff to begin with. Sometimes the right prompt can give you a boost! You don’t need to be a sci-fi writer to find inspiration in the stars. Drawing from astronomical curiosities and theories, author Nikki Kallio will offer specially designed prompts that work for any genre (including memoir and all types of fiction). Nikki will help you discover new ways to find inspiration, develop your own prompts from the world around you, and view your story from another perspective to keep your imagination in orbit.

Nikki Kallio
Nikki’s short fiction collection, Finding the Bones (Cornerstone Press, 2023), is currently a finalist for a Cygnus Book Award, which recognizes excellence in sci-fi, speculative fiction, steampunk and alternative history. Her essay “Cold Front” appeared in the anthology (Her)oics: Women’s Lived Experiences During the Coronavirus Pandemic (Pact Press, 2021). She has an MFA in creative writing from Goddard College and previously worked as a daily newspaper journalist, including as an environmental reporter and later an editorial columnist. She worked in Maine and California before returning home to Wisconsin, where she is now a freelance writer, editor and instructor. She is often scanning the skies for northern lights and other phenomena.
