What is it about Maine? Writers and artists, composers and actors have found their muses here since before the railroads, when steamboats carried city folk “downeast” to cottages and inns on the foggy coast of this summer-glorious state of being.
For anyone who has yearned for the sounds and tastes and smells of the Maine Coast. For anyone who has wanted to drink coffee, reflect and write from an Adirondack chair perched on the porch of a classic New England Inn directly over the shores of the Atlantic. For anyone who thinks morning yoga, writing, yummy food, good company, walking and swimming and kayaking and laughing and crying and more writing is what you’ve been seeking – well this is the writing retreat for you.
Join Wide Open Writing for 7 days in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. We’ll gather in what was once The Albonegan Inn (where Charlie Chaplin stayed – twice), complete with piano and fireplace and double balconies overlooking the harbor, to write and relax and explore this gem of the Maine Coast. We are housed in the quiet and lovely private community of Capitol Island, a very short drive from the village of Boothbay Harbor, a charming Maine fishing and boating town with plenty of restaurants, bars and galleries to further inspire. We are also less than 20 minutes from the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and within easy reach of ocean-going whale watching and puffin tours.
Full cost of this retreat is $2500 per person for a single room. There are a few smaller rooms available at $2100. The price includes 7 days/6 nights accommodation with six breakfasts, six lunches and four dinners, yoga, an individual Thai massage session, and all workshops.
Space is limited so if this sounds like the retreat you’ve been yearning for, send a deposit of $500 to secure your space. Full payment will be due by March 30th.
